Best Foundations For Oily Skin Buying Guide

Best Foundations For Oily Skin Buying Guide

Ever wondered why a skin foundation is called, well, foundation? Foundation, simply, is the base from which everything else will start. We all know a good foundation goes a long way. And we could be talking not just about the cosmetic product. We could be talking about building foundations, basis of principles, educational investment and a lot of other things, but today we are talking about foundation makeup.

Foundation is a facial cosmetic product that is applied on the face to gain a uniform and flawless complexion. Foundations come in skin tone shades to match your skin color. Unlike concealers which are applied on specific and small areas of the face, foundations are applied all over the face and neck so as to ensure a natural-looking coverage.

If you’re a newcomer to the whole foundation craze, or if you feel like you have been doing foundation wrong your whole cosmetics life, you might want to check out the buying guide we have prepared here at ParentsNeed HQ.

Have you got oily skin and can’t seem to decide where to start? You are in luck. This buying guide is all about finding the right foundation that will best suit an oily skin. Later on in this buying guide, we will be helping you choose the best foundation if you have oily skin. Just to be thorough, let us first discuss the different types of skin.

What are the different skin types?

It is important to know what your skin type is because a lot of success in cosmetic use depends on compatibility. Most cosmetic products have established and declared compatibilities with different skin types. It is your responsibility to determine what type you are.

● Normal Skin Type

Normal skin means your skin is neither oily nor dry. This skin type has minimal pore size, good elasticity and overall smooth texture, making it compatible to most, if not all, cosmetic products.

● Dry Skin Type

Dry skin means your skin is dehydrated. Dehydrated skin lacks elasticity and therefore has a tight feeling. Due to lack of moisture, dry skin easily flakes off and small pores are usually visible. Moisture enhancing cosmetics are the best type of cosmetic products for dry skin types.

● Oily Skin Type

Oily skin is the result of an overproduction of oil by the skin, making the skin appear shiny. Though oily skin is usually moisturized since the oil locks in the moisture, it is prone to blemishes, acne, blackheads, clogged pores and build up of dead skin. Large pores are visible on oily skins. If you have oily skin, do take care to use only cosmetic products that are specifically designed for oily skin. An oil-free formulation with a matte finish could be the best choice for oily skin type.

● Combination Skin Type

As can be derived from the name, this skin type is a combination of dry and oily skin. Skin in the T-zone area tends to be oily while the skin over the cheeks and eyes are dry. Care must be taken when applying cosmetics on these skin types.

● Sensitive Skin Type

People with sensitive skin are prone to allergic reactions with ingredients that are otherwise harmless to other skin types.

What are the types of foundations?

Now let’s briefly discuss the different forms of foundation and their compatibility with different skin types. Each form of foundation has its own level of coverage. Effectivity of each form to produce flawless skin largely depends on its compatibility with the skin type.

● Liquid Foundation

Probably the most versatile of all the types of foundation, liquid foundations can provide from very sheer to heavy coverage. This type of foundation provides a smooth and silky finish. Due to its liquid formulation, liquid foundations give the most natural look and feel. It doesn’t feel too heavy and thick on the face. It gives the right amount of coverage and is perfectly capable of covering up flaws and imperfections. Liquid foundations are perfect for every skin type.

● Cream Foundation

Cream foundations obviously have a creamy consistency. They are quite easy to apply owing to their smooth nature. They have a very thick texture and are highly pigmented, thus making it easy to build coverage with just a small amount. If you are looking for a moderate to heavy coverage, cream foundations are what might suit you. Cream foundations are generally long-lasting and have good staying power. They often have moisturizing properties so they are typically recommended for people with normal to dry skin types.

● Compact Foundation

Compact foundations are hybrids of liquid foundations and powder foundations. It is a favorite for people who are looking for portability since they get two products, compacted into one neat package. Compact foundations are easy to apply. This very versatile foundation can provide coverage ranging from sheer to heavy. When applied with a dry powder sponge, compact foundations produce light, sheer coverage. Using a damp powder sponge will give you heavy coverage with a matte finish. Compact foundations work well for people with normal, combination, and oily skin types.

● Illuminating Foundation

Illuminating foundations provide natural, fresh glow by virtue of their highlighting effect, owing to their formulations, which contain ingredients with reflective properties. These ingredients include crushed minerals and pearls. Unlike most foundations, instead of the usual moderate to heavy coverage, illuminating foundations give the skin a subtle shimmer. They are often applied on the cheekbones, above the brows and the temples. Illuminating foundations can be used by people with normal, combination, and dry skin types.

● Matte Foundation

Matte foundations are used when moderate to heavy coverage is desired and when the foundation is expected to be worn for an extended time. Their very thick and concentrated texture renders them to provide such coverage. Normal, oily and combination skin types may use this type of foundation.

● Mineral Foundation

The foundation that best suits sensitive skin types, Mineral foundations are composed of mineral ingredients that are skin friendly. They come in powder form, best applied by using a kabuki brush. Mineral foundations provide flawless coverage to the skin without clogging the pores and forming into wrinkles.

● Stick Foundation

Stick foundations have very thick textures and can therefore provide moderate to heavy coverage. They are very convenient to use because of their portability. These foundations come in sticks pretty much the way lipsticks do. They are highly pigmented and sometimes act as a two-in-one cosmetic product by having concealer features incorporated into its formulation. Stick foundations, however, take practice to blend perfectly due to their thick texture. Stick foundations are best for normal and combination skin types.

How to choose a foundation for oily skin?

Now that you’ve familiarized yourself with the different skin types as well as the different kinds of foundation, let us focus our attention on how to choose the best foundation for oily skin types.

Decide which type of foundation to get. From the looks of it, you may opt to pick a choice among liquid, compact, matte, and mineral foundation. Choose how you want to apply your foundation. Consider the degree of portability that you would want, if portability is a concern.

Choose skin-friendly formulations. Choose the formula that will best suit your oily skin. Try reading the label and see if the formulation is oil-free. Oil-free means there were no plant, mineral or synthetic oils used in the formulation. Foundations with a matte or powder finish work best for oily skin type since the powder will absorb the oil and leave a matte finish.

What type of coverage do you want? Different brands and products offer a variety of coverage from ultra sheer to full, heavy coverage. The important thing here is to know how you intend to use your foundation. Is it for regular use as part of your daily facial regimen? Then we suggest foundations with light to moderate coverage, especially if you expect to just stay indoors most of the day. Choose a foundation with heavier coverage for night events and special occasions.

Carefully choose the shade. We say carefully because this is where most people make mistakes. They often choose the wrong shade. The key to finding the best shade for your skin is figuring out first your skin’s undertone. The easiest way to know what your undertone is by checking out the color of your veins on areas with very thin skin coverage like your wrists. Olive green veins mean you have warm undertones. You have cool undertones if your veins are blue. Your undertones are neutral if they are somewhere in between. Yellow to peach colored foundation will look great on skin with warm undertones. Pink colored foundations work best on skins with cool tones. Neutral tones can work with any shade but we have found the yellow-based foundations work best.

best foundations

Do you need your foundation to be long-lasting? If you are in the market for a foundation for casual use, you really don’t need long-lasting foundations. If you will wear it for extended hours, however, then look for foundations that offer coverage for extended wear.

Perform a dry run. In short, try out the testers that are available in your local beauty stores. Test the foundation against your jawline, instead of on your hand. Be sure to do this under the most natural light possible. You would know you have found the perfect shade for yourself if the foundation disappeared and completely blended into your skin.

Would you like some bonus features with your foundation? Decide whether you would be satisfied with a foundation that would perform the most basic of functions. There are foundations out in the market that offer more than the usual coverage. Perhaps you would be interested in foundations with SPF content. Maybe you would like a foundation that could double as a concealer. Some products offer anti-aging features by targeting fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. These are not bad add-ons at all. If you could get around with the additional cost with which these features come with, then by all means, go get ‘em.

Read up on top-rated foundations for oily skin types. The easiest way to know which brand is the best is to read what other consumers are hyping about. Find out the experiences of the people who have tried and tested your prospective foundation. It is through consumer reviews that you will get to find out about the actual performance of a certain product. Does it cake? Is it long-lasting? Is it smudge free? Do your research before making that purchase. Our skin deserves the best. It is your responsibility to make sure it only gets the best.

What is your working budget? No matter how great the foundation you’ve chosen is, the most limiting factor would be your budget. Perform a reality check before heading to the cashier. Check out prices online. Compare and eliminate choices. Pick the brand with the best value for the money that you have.

Other points to keep in mind:

  • Using primers and bb creams can help the foundation to go on your skin smoothly and provide additional coverage as well.
  • Use the right tools. Some foundations require a beauty sponge for application. Other are best applied using a kabuki brush. The mode of application is usually indicated on the label so do examine your purchase.
  • Make the necessary preparations before applying foundation on your skin. Keep in mind that you have oily skin and that you wouldn’t want to clog any pores. You want look better with foundation on. Not doing the proper preparation will only worsen your skin’s condition and will have totally defeated your quest to look better. Completely wash and clean your face before putting any makeup on, to ensure the pores are clear. Just as important, completely remove your makeup, with makeup removers if necessary, before going to bed.
  • Don’t forget your neck. You want to look naturally beautiful, correct? Then don’t stop at your jawline. Remember to blend your foundation along your neck and make it appear seamless.

How to Deal with Toddler Temper Tantrums

How to Deal with Toddler Temper Tantrums

It could have started out as a wonderful day. You wake up in the morning, the sun is shining through your bedroom window, and you got a beautiful kid to cook breakfast for. Everything goes well. Your toddler absolutely loved that flapjacks you made him. You tell him to go get ready as you will go grocery shopping today. He happily obliges. You get to the grocery store and your tot is all kinds of excited about it. You breeze through aisle 1. Five quick minutes later, you find yourself in aisle 3, standing over your inconsolable toddler who is a ball of rage, throwing a fit on the floor. What in heaven’s name happened?

One minute your child seems happy and content, the next he’s become all sorts of dissatisfied, thrashing around like a Tasmanian. Some call these incidents as unfortunate episodes. Let’s call them temper tantrums. Temper tantrums are part of your everyday reality when you have a toddler at home. And, no, it’s not just happening to you. It happens to the best of us.

Understanding Toddler Temper Tantrums

Have you ever been ambushed by a temper tantrum? How to stop temper tantrums? As you try to hold back your tears of frustration and hide the embarrassment of being unable to control your screaming toddler, you must have thought at least once that you are at fault. Maybe the thought that your child is becoming a bad boy or girl has even crossed your mind. Well, stop. Temper tantrums are neither your nor your child’s fault. According to studies, these temper outbursts are actually a normal biological response of toddlers to anger and frustration.

The term, “the terrible twos”, have not been coined for nothing. Temper tantrums often begin when the child is two years of age. Your child, however, can start throwing a fit as early as 12 months and may continue well until his fourth birthday.

To help you understand more about temper tantrums, let’s try to discuss the science behind your child’s outbursts. There is a part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex. It is a part of the brain which is responsible for regulating our emotions. It serves to control our social behavior. It is the last to develop among the other areas of the brain. In fact, the prefrontal cortex will only have begun to mature when a child is four years of age. This is the reason why your toddler is still emotionally and socially immature. They are hardwired to misbehave.

How to Deal with Toddler Temper Tantrums

The next time they throw a fit, you now know that their underdeveloped prefrontal cortex is to blame for all the flailing and irrational displays of emotion. Not you. Nor your child. It’s all science. And, well, magic. You see, children tend to think magically, instead of logically. Do not expect more from them. They are meant to be irrational. It is how they learn, eventually. Ordinary events that make sense to us seem ten times confusing to them. Confusion often leads to stress. They do not understand that having one too many candy bars is bad for them; they just know candy bars are delicious and that they want more. They are unable to rationalize why they can’t play with the grocery items along aisle 3; they just think they are all colorful and attractive. Imagine not being able to say what you mean or communicate what you want. That’s how your toddler feels like most of the time. For them, your ordinary surrounding is a big and scary world.

Common Triggers for Toddler Temper Tantrums

A temper tantrum is a child’s response to frustration and stress. Add to that the fact they can’t exactly express themselves and you’re sure to have your little bawling rebel come at you. Here are some of the common things that can cause a child to feel stressed or frustrated and eventually turn into toddler tantrums and hitting:

  • Having the inability to communicate with words what he is feeling
  • Having a need to get his way or assert independence
  • Having a feeling of lack of control over his situation
  • Hunger, boredom, overstimulation or fatigue

How to Prevent Toddler Temper Tantrums

Most temper tantrums are inevitable, but some may be prevented. There are things that you can do in order to take control over situations that are otherwise beyond you. Here are some tips on how to prevent temper tantrums:

Get familiar with your child’s personality.

Get to know your child and how well he reacts to keeping a schedule. Some kids respond better when they know what to expect during the course of the day. Having regular naptimes, mealtimes and bedtimes may help lessen your child’s stress. Some children, on the other hand, dread routine and enjoy spontaneity. Work with your child’s personality to avoid getting him unnecessarily upset over simple things.

Prevent your child from getting hungry, fatigued, bored or overstimulated.

Avoid setting a hectic schedule, otherwise, your child will end up tired and fatigued. Avoid letting him participate in demanding activities just before naptime. Your child will be too stimulated to sleep. Always have a healthy snack ready, especially if you will be going out for the day. To prevent him from getting bored, keep him busy with his favorite toy or book.

How to Deal with Toddler Temper Tantrums

Lessen the need to point out limitations.

Kids get confused and stressed if you constantly have to cry out his limitations, like saying, “No, don’t touch that!” or “No, don’t go there!”. It may make them feel like they’re doing something wrong or bad. All you’re really concerned about is his safety, but they don’t understand that. By childproofing your home, you may avoid having to sound like an uptight mom who won’t let her child experience anything. This way, clear limits are set and you don’t even have to say them out loud.

Provide him an amount of independence.

You can do this by presenting him with simple choices. Make him choose between cereal or fruit yoghurt for breakfast. Ask him which shirt he’d like to wear for the day; the blue or the red one? Letting your child choose lets him feel that he’s in control.

Avoid saying, “maybe”.

“Maybe” sounds confusing to a toddler. In his understanding, you are saying yes. When he doesn’t get what you said he maybe could have, he gets stressed and angry. Say what you mean, whether it’s a yes or no. Negotiating a compromise is also more helpful than leading your child on.

What to Do When the Inevitable Temper Tantrum Happens

There is absolutely no way of telling it. Your child can melt down anytime, anywhere. Once a temper tantrum is full blown, all you can do is cope and deal with it. With the right timing and attitude, however, you may do some things to help you tame your little Tasmanian. Here are a few strategies on how to deal with toddler temper tantrums:

Engage your child in a game.

Encourage your child to play a game with you. This especially works when you are in places that can involve a lot of waiting, like in the airport or on a long road trip. Playing a game with your child will distract him from the thing that might be distressing him. It is also a great way to show him that you’re giving him some attention. Sometimes a tantrum is merely a way for your child to cry for attention.

Induce laughter.

Laughing is always a good idea. You know how they say laughter is the best medicine? Well, laughter can be the cure to a temper tantrum as well. Feel-good hormones are released whenever you laugh. Making your child break into fits of laughter will help curb the stress that’s making him want to throw fits of rage. It is generally easy to make a toddler laugh. Just do silly things like using a banana as a phone or making funny animal sounds.

Speak with a gentle and soft voice.

Do not attempt to out-yell your child when he’s bawling and screaming. Stay calm and don’t lose your cool. Of course that is easier said than done, especially when you’re faced with a not so pretty sight, your toddler kicking and screaming on the floor. You may even start to panic once he starts holding his breath as a sign of protest. This is a normal tantrum move. Remember that your toddler is taken by his emotions during a tantrum. His reasoning skills are shut down. He will only respond negatively if you yell at him. He may only become more defiant and aggressive. Speak softly. Talking in a calm voice will help soothe your child as well as keep you both relaxed. Children can easily pick up from the tone of our voice so if your child hears the tension in yours, he may only get amped up even more. The best way to do it is to whisper to him in a calm and gentle voice, while looking at him lovingly in the eyes. This will most likely make him want to quiet down to figure out what you are saying.

Ignore your toddler.

While you definitely want your toddler to stop his fussing, you don’t want him to get used to being tended to whenever he throws a fit; Otherwise he will think that it is the right way to get attention. If you feel like your child’s outburst is more of an act than a true distress call, try ignoring him. That is as long as he is not doing anything that could be harmful to himself or to other people. Try humming or singing loudly while he carries on so you could get the message across him.

How to Deal with Toddler Temper Tantrums

Hold your ground.

Try your best not to give in to the unreasonable demands of your toddler during a temper tantrum. It isn’t just you who will lose when you give in. So will your child. Remember that most demands of a tantrum are not based on logical reason. Giving in just to stop your child’s tantrum will only reinforce the outburst. It sends your child the wrong message that throwing a fit will get him what he wants, no matter how irrational he may be. This will only worsen future conflicts. No matter how long the episode may last, stand your ground. Do away with worrying what others think if you happen to be in a public place. Experienced parents have been there, they will understand. Be firm with your child and calmly repeat to him what he needs to learn, like a rule about eating sweets for example. Consistency is important so as not to confuse your child in the future.

Take your child some place safe.

It is important to keep your child from doing something that could harm himself, or other people for that matter. When your child starts hitting people or throwing things, it is best to hold your child and bring him somewhere safe. You could bring him to his bedroom and stay there until he has calmed down. Calmly explain to him why he’s staying there. If you are in a public place, like in a restaurant, leave with your child until he has quieted down to avoid disrupting other people’s peace. Soothe him by holding him close. A loving touch can always get through any anger or frustration, both yours and your child’s. Hugging your child tightly will almost always do the trick.

Avoid resorting to physical punishment.

Physical punishment may be risky especially when your emotions get the better of you. It is never really a good idea. You yourself might lose control, which could prove to be dangerous. You will not only end up hurting your child physically, but you may also end up hurting him emotionally as well. Remember that emotional scars heal a whole lot slower than physical scars. You want your child to compose himself and behave accordingly because he loves you, not because he is afraid of you.

When to talk to your child’s doctor

It is best to consult with your child’s doctor when your child’s tantrums:

  • Occur more than two times a day
  • Are accompanied by intense feelings of anger or sadness
  • Are often followed by aggression, and sleeping and eating disorder
  • Occur regularly beyond the age of 4

Achieving the right look can be difficult if you don't know which part of your face needs to be accentuated. But in every beginning make-up strategy, the first thing you need to focus on is your eyes. That's why we often start with our eyes after that basic rubdown of foundation.

Now, the trick is to sport a beautifully curled lash. What we don't realize is that, we could actually over-curl or under-curl our eyelashes. And for that reason, the Laura Mercier Eyelash Curler becomes really handy. The Laura Mercier is a compact eyelash curler. We recommend this as a must have in every on-the-go make-up kit because it doesn't have those bulky finger rings. Those rings can end up being caught up in other make-up goodies in your bag of beauty enhancers but this Laura Mercier eyelash curler is different.

It got rid of the handle and replaced it with a slick quick finger fix-up. It becomes more streamlined and handy and the design turns this lash curler into a precision eye lash curler. It is small and compact and yet does the job the traditional eye lash curler does too. What's so lovable about this best eye lash curler is the fact that it doesn't pinch your eyelids. It has a soft padding that provides a gentle curve. Other eye lash curlers come with a very thin curve that gives our eyelashes a 'folded' look instead of a curved appearance. With those types of eye lash curlers, it ended up making our eyelashes look like as if the were glued up!

That is not the sultry look you'd like to pull of with an eyelash curler, do you? All you can do is give it your best shot for every beauty item that you purchase in the market. That's why, we choose the Laura Mercier, they produce top-quality beauty products that meet each and everyone's expectations the first time. We also love the fact that the base padding is easy to refill. For the reason that it gives that wonderfully curved eyelash without breaking your eye lashes, we are listing the Laura Mercier second on our Best Rated Eyelash Curler list.

They say that getting the right eyelash curl to stay longer is in the technique but the reality is that, technique only has got a little to do with a good-looking lash curl. It is mostly upon the choice of choosing the best eyelash curler. Good eyelash curlers are difficult to find because we often just buy the cheap one that still does the job. But the sad reality is that cheap eyelash curlers tend to cut our eyelashes in half and not necessarily curl them the way we want them to.

Now, the trick is using the best eyelash curler you can find and among them is the Japonesque Go Curl Eyelash Curler. Japonesque is much like our first contender, it is a compact eyelash curler. It is slick and handy and uses a gentle padding that give your eyelashes a sweeping look. Most lash curlers would just opt for a cured up set of batters but the Japonesque eyelash curler bring about a sweeping look. It gives you a longer eye batting appeal because it looks naturally sweeping upwards. It even makes your eyelashes seem longer than they really are.

The Japonesque lash curler is also made with plastic but it is more elastic. Whenever your press down on a plastic compact eye curler, it wears the plastic down and eventually breaking it or even cutting it in half. Now, that is a waste. Instead of buying a curler that easily cracks in half, better choose the Japonesque lash curler that survives every press and lash curling process.

Another reason why we love this gentle eyelash curler not just because it is a slim feature that easily fits in any purse but because the base padding is gentle even on your outer eyelids. So, even if you made a mistake in curling your lashes, you wouldn't hurt yourself when you so happen to press down on your eyelids. And for those wonderful reasons, we place the Japonesque eyelash curler third in our list.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

Having thin eyelashes can be a bummer. Sometimes, we drop the eyelash curler and rely on mascara to do the job for us. What we don't realize is that a curled eyelash makes a better support for mascara. So don't discard the idea of using an eyelash curler just yet. Choose a gentle eyelash curler that can service your eyelashes well to give you that soft and more feminine look. That's why you should get the Shu Uemura Eye lash Curler. This Eye Lash Curler may look like all the rest of the Curlers out there but this one has feature that is only unique to the brand and that is the shallow curve of the curer itself. Unlike other that curve all the way through half a circle, the Shu Uemura curves less making it more appealing and versatile to all eye shapes and types.

The best eyelash curlers service your type of eye and eyelash no matter which race you are. Asians tend to have flat level eyes with lashes that droop downwards. Caucasians have thin yet slightly curled eyelashes upon a softly curving eye. These two eye shapes are typical and yet very distinctly far from each other. And for the reason that the Shu Uemura can cur both types of eyelashes, we are loving this item.

It's good lash curler to always keep in your make-up kit. Not matter where you go, it will always find a spot in your bag. Besides, if you do want to look attractive, start with the face. Your face will shine above every aspect of your persona and having eyes that are accentuated and opened up by softly sweeping eyelashes, you are sure to sport both confidence and appeal.

This eyelash curler will never betray you. The soft silicone padding doesn't easily split or break and doesn't easily tear apart either. What's great about it is that the padding is soft and strong and stays just as it should be for a really really long time. This way you are assured that it won't split your eyelashes in anyway. The thing is, there are so many eyelash curlers out there and you're not sure which one would fit you best. Since you are a beginner, the Tweezerman eyelash curler is the best direction to go. It has a thicker padding compared to what professional make-up artists use. That is because it is made to curl those beginner's eyelashes. Even if you do press and accidentally pinch a bit of your eyelids, you won't get hurt because of the gentle thick padding.

Tula Ergonomic Baby Carrier

Tula Ergonomic Baby Carrier

Tula baby carriers first started gaining its popularity among babywearing moms. However, it became one of the most used products available in the mainstream market later on. It may come with a simple design but it certainly does not lack in the performance department.

Among the things we love most about this baby carrier is that it is among the safest product there is. It is able to maintain a clear airway ensuring safety for your baby, provides proper ergonomics as well as full support for the head, neck and spine. In fact, its seat is among the widest in the market so it ensures that babies stay in their natural frog position and prevent the legs from dangling.

The Tula carrier provides comfort for both parent and baby in that it uses a thinner fabric to make it less bulky and more breathable. Even so, it does not compromise safety and still stays strong. In fact, it has one of the highest maximum carrying capacities of all the best baby carriers included in this list.

Infants and toddlers can fall asleep and stay that way comfortably. The carrier comes with a lot of space on top and a deep seat with plenty of support. The leg holes also have padding around the rims for added comfort. As for the parents, the design of the carrier ensures that the weight is distributed properly, no back pains are created and that the muffin top which happens when using carriers are prevented.

We love that the Tula baby carrier can be used at just about anywhere, even when going about the daily routines at home. They can also carry toddlers and older babies as well as infants through the infant insert. It is also machine-washable so you can toss it in the laundry then hung out to dry – and you’re good to go.

For its many pluses, we are placing the Tula carrier at the top of our list.

Ergobaby Four Position 360 Baby Carrier

Ergobaby Four Position 360 Baby Carrier

If you are looking for the best baby carrier that will allow the kiddos to sit front-facing, back-facing or from the back of the parent, the Ergo Baby Carrier is your best pick.

But how does this one differ from the others? Well, the biggest plus we loved so much about this carrier is that it is the ONLY carrier that allowed kiddos to sit in the ergonomic and correct frog position even if they decide to face front. Yep, it has a deep seat that provides a lot of support so they stay comfortable inside. While sitting in the carrier, they can let their weight rest in their bottoms and they can have their knees at the same level as their hips.

In terms of the ease of use, the Ergo Baby does not disappoint. There are just some buttons that you need to adjust in case you want your baby to get inside in a different position but otherwise, there isn’t a lot of fuss when using it.

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of things that we did not quite love about the Ergo Baby. For one, it gets hard to adjust it especially when you have a sleeping baby inside. The waistband is awesome in that it is wide and assures you that the plastic buckle will not keep digging into your skin. However, the Velcro makes a loud noise and has to be completely opened up in order to tighten or loosen it.

Another complaint we have about this carrier is its chest clip. This clip stays between the shoulder blades at the back when in the front carry position but adjusting it proves to be quite a challenge especially with very limited shoulder flexibility.

The limited adjustability, loud Velcro straps and the low maximum weight limit are among the reasons why we had to push this product to the second spot in our list.

Infantino Sash Wrap and Tie Baby Carrier

Infantino Sash Wrap and Tie Baby Carrier

Yet another recommended product in our list of the best baby carriers is the Infantino Sash Mei Tai. This lightweight carrier is perfect for parents on the go as well as those with babies who tend to be on the heavy side. The carrier is designed to let the baby’s weight stay on the parent’s hips so it doesn’t strain the back or the shoulders.

What did we like about this Infantino baby carrier? For one, it allows the baby to stay in its deep seat and allow the legs to follow the correct ergonomic frog position. Clear airway is maintained and adequate head and neck support is provided. Because of this, baby can sleep in and stay that way in the carrier. Another thing we love about this mei tai carrier is that it didn’t get hot even in warm conditions. The shoulder straps are wide and well padded and the weight of the baby gets distributed around the hips. Since the carrier can easily be adjusted, it is the perfect product for plus-sized users and multiple wearers. It also does not require an infant insert when using it with small babies.

The only thing we did not quite love about it is that we did not quite feel like it had all the necessary support when baby sits in the back carry position. Sure, we can have it tied tighter but the legs become squeezed when doing so. It is, however, much easier to use compared to other wrap-style carriers that constantly need other people when putting it around the wearer and the baby.

We may have been wowed by its ease of use and its easy storage (it can be folded compactly and made to fit in most diaper bags, unlike other bulkier designs), we did not quite like its lack of support. However, for a great price of $35, you do get what you pay for.

After weighing all the pros and cons, we have decided to place this one in the middle of our list.

Moby Wrap Moderns 100% Cotton Baby Carrier

Moby Wrap Moderns 100% Cotton Baby Carrier

While the Moby baby wrap carrier was designed with a simple concept in mind, it proves to require quite a steep learning curve.

The entire fabric is made of soft, stretchy cotton that wraps around the wearer’s body and that of the baby’s. Laid out, this baby wrap can go as long as 18 feet. For beginners, using the wrap on your own can be tricky but it does get better and quicker as you get used to it.

This wrap carrier is best used with small babies as they love to be swaddled and held very close to their mom. We love that the fabric allows even distribution of the baby’s weight and that it keeps them secure even without the parent’s hands constantly around the baby. Since very young babies usually just fall asleep, their heads can stay safely tucked under the fabric. The position of the baby inside the wrap allows their hips and spine to be properly supported.

Unfortunately, even though the Moby Wrap feels like heaven for baby wearers, it actually is not as much. One of the things we did not quite like is the type of fabric being used. It tends to get hot for both parent and baby even during the cooler months. A newer version of the Moby Wrap has been made available to address such issue.

Another thing that hinders parents from using this soft baby carrier is that it tends to be really difficult to use especially during the first few times. Using this with a toddler can be quite a challenge when you do not have help around. It tends to be easier on smaller babies but there is also the problem of dragging around the long stretch of fabric when putting it on.

We also find the wrap carrier to be limiting in terms of position when using with toddlers. As such, we will have to place this one on the fourth spot in our list.

Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier Original

Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier Original

We were a little hesitant about adding the Baby Bjorn carrier into our list but it did have quite a handful of pros when tested.

So, let’s start with the good points. The Baby Bjorn is the perfect starting carrier from 0 to 4 months of age. It provides ample support for babies around that height and weight and they stay inside in quite a comfortable position. We love that this product is lightweight and very easy to use so it is a big plus for both parent and baby. This is certainly a great baby carrier when you have a newborn.

However, as your kiddo starts to get older, it also becomes more uncomfortable to have them seated inside. The seat is not very deep so it does not allow the kiddos to stay in that ergonomically correct frog position. For older kids, the legs tend to dangle nearly straight down, especially when they are placed inside in the front carry position. The major concern is mostly on the hip placement and the pressure being placed on the infant’s genitals, especially in male babies. The baby’s weight can also be a source of major discomfort in the wearer’s shoulders as well. You will definitely feel the strain as the baby starts growing.

This baby carrier is a classic design and it is totally understandable to want something tested and proven especially if it is your first product. However, you might also want to consider other designs instead. You might also want to take note that this product lacks a sleeping hood and a storage pocket, which can be inconvenient for some.

Because of the limited carrying positions and the discomfort it tends to bring to its wearer and the baby inside, we will have to push this down the bottom of the list. It is a great starter carrier but not something to be used beyond 6 months.

Conclusion

Finding the right soft baby carrier can be a challenge but you only need to keep in mind the safety and comfort of both the wearer and the kid inside it. Test it out if you have to and make sure that it provides plenty of support and seating space so that your baby stays comfortable no matter how long they inside the baby carrier.

Slings and wraps are also a great option but they tend to be inconvenient for parents so be sure to choose one that you will stay comfortable using. It will be hard to use at first but it will tend to become easier once you get used to it. Good luck and have a great time wearing your baby everywhere you go!
