Designing and putting together a nursery can be a lot of work especially for first-time parents. There are a lot of things to think about and choosing the right types of furniture is something that has to be decided upon after a lot of thought.
One of the most important things that parents need to get for the baby nursery is the crib. How do you choose a crib? Which types of baby bed will be best suited for your baby and your budget?
With so many baby crib variations available in the market, choosing the right one for your family can be an overwhelming task. You need to make sure that while the price tag of your furniture fits your budget, it should be made of the highest quality and is able to pass the current standards.
Now, most cribs are designed for use only during the first few years of your kid’s life, some are even designed to just hold a few pounds of baby weight. However, more and more parents are becoming practical nowadays and have started looking into getting convertible cribs.
What are they? Basically, these are the types of baby cribs that can be used from newborn and even as they start to transition into a big kid’s bed. Isn’t it amazing if you can simply use a single bed that can be used as a baby crib and then, later on, into a full sized bed complete with a headboard and footboard? Cool, right?
If you are looking into these types of cribs, look no further because we have rounded up the best convertible cribs available for your little one.

Graco Freeport 4-in-1 Convertible Crib
Although parents would like to get only the best and most beautiful items for their little ones, there are also other things to consider such as budget. Fortunately, there is a no-fuss option when it comes to convertible cribs and what is even more awesome about it is that it comes with a much more affordable price tag compared to the other cribs added in this list. No surprise that this one makes it to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list!
So, what is awesome about this product? Obviously, you can turn it from a baby crib to a toddler bed to a day bed then a full-sized bed in just a matter of minutes. It is a very practical item to have in your kid’s nursery and its timeless design ensures that it can stand the test of time. The baby crib also comes with three different heights so you can adjust it according to your baby’s needs. This ensures that you never have to worry about your little climbing out or falling off of the crib.
What about assembly? You would be surprised at how easy assembly instructions are with this one. Make sure to follow each step to a tee and you should not go into any problem – even a grandmother can do it by herself! Make sure to use the exact length of the bolt needed to attach one part to another. The number of bolts needed to attach the parts together is also indicated in the instructions so you need not worry about figuring that out anymore.
Another thing we love about this convertible baby crib is that it has a very huge space and also very pretty. You can easily transition your kid as they grow old and you do not have to worry about running out of space because this will just be enough for them. The wood and other materials are also made of very high quality making it well worth the investment. It can truly stand the test of time!
We have not found anything to complain about this convertible crib although some parents did receive packages with some damaged parts (isolated case). Otherwise, this one totally deserves to be placed at the top spot!

DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail
When looking for the best of the best in convertible cribs for kids, perhaps one of the top brands that come to mind is DaVinci. Why? Everything about their product, especially the Kalani 4-in-1 convertible crib, just screams perfection.
Let us count the ways.
You are welcoming a newborn and what do you use? A baby crib, of course! And this is exactly what the DaVinci Kalani offers to parents. Using its toddler bed conversion kit, you can take advantage of the four adjustable positions for the mattress so you do not have to worry about your kiddo outgrowing their bed. This one will grow with them! Babies can make use of the uppermost height of the mattress and you can go lower and lower as your little one starts to become mobile.
Once your kiddo starts to show interest in sleeping in a big kid bed, then you can transform the Kalani into a toddler bed complete with railings. It is very easy to do so and you can use the railings to prevent them from falling off the bed. Don’t worry so much if they do because the height is pretty low so any fall made by rough and rowdy kids is not exactly fatal. Once they start growing again, you can transform it into a day bed and remove the railings: it’s perfect for big kid naps.
Time flies by and you already have a school aged kid. Well, simply transform the Kalani into a full-sized bed complete with a headboard and footboard. Awesome, right? This can be used well into their teenage years or until they reach the 500-pound max weight capacity (they probably never will). Here is one investment that you only make one time and it lasts your kid many years of use.
Do take note that the conversion kit to turn it into a full-sized bed is not included in the main package – but that will still be many years away, anyway. We are obviously amazed at how awesome the conceptualization and engineering but the price had us back out a little which is why this one sits at the second spot.

Dream On Me Violet 7 in 1 Convertible Life Style Crib
Looking for a slightly less expensive convertible crib for your baby? Here it is! The 7-in-1 convertible crib from Dream on Me! With its numerous conversion options, elegant style and less expensive price tag, what more could you ask for?
What we love about this baby crib is that it can obviously transform into multiple variations, perfect for your growing child. You can start off with a baby crib that comes with four mattress support positions so you can adjust it depending on your child’s mobility. This ensures that your baby will never be able to climb out or fall off from the crib especially when you are not looking. Start off with the highest setting then gradually go lower as you adjust to your baby’s height and activities.
Once your baby grows, you can turn it into a toddler bed and get the optional guard rail which needs to be purchased separately. You can also raise the mattress slightly higher and turn it into a day bed for those siestas and afternoon naps that growing kids need.
Have a school-aged child around? The Dream on Me Convertible Crib can be turned into a Youth bed that can be used with or without the footboard option. Should you opt to use a footboard, you will have to purchase the Youth Bed conversion kit separately. And, once your kid outgrows that one, you can turn the bed into a full-sized bed, again with the optional footboard.
With its timeless design and versatility, you do not have to worry about purchasing a bed year after year to accommodate your growing child’s (or teen’s) needs. You can reuse and convert their current bed from newborn phase to adulthood and save a lot of money in the long run. These cribs also meet applicable ASTM and CPSC standards so you do not have to worry so much about safety and durability.
While some parents have complained about receiving defective products, they are really just isolated cases. The only downside to this product is that the conversion kits have to be purchased separately so it isn’t truly a 7-in-1 product, per se. Still, we think that this is awesome and should be placed at the third spot in our list.

Graco Benton Convertible Crib
Graco has long been a respected brand when it comes to all things related to babies. No wonder that the Graco Benton convertible crib is among the most trusted convertible cribs available in the market.
What we love about this crib is that it comes with a very simple design so it is timeless and can stand the test of time. You do not have to worry about it not matching your interiors because it most likely will – it does not look too fancy but still elegant enough and very durable, too.
This convertible crib can be used on kids as early as newborn phase. You can take advantage of the four levels of mattress height so you will not have a problem getting your baby in and out of the crib during the first few months. As they start becoming mobile and learn to move around, you can lower the mattress height until the bottom most part and prevent them from climbing out and falling off of the crib.
Later on, your little kiddo can transition into using a toddler bed and use the optional universal bed rail, which is sold separately. You can eventually turn it into a day bed then a full-sized bed although you have to remember that converting to full-sized one requires a conversion kit that has to be purchased separately as well.
Upon opening the Graco Benton crib from the package, we were actually worried about the parts being flimsy but were very much surprised to see that it is actually very strong and sturdy, after assembling the parts together. Don’t worry – the bed is made from extremely durable material so it can definitely endure your kid’s capacity. The full-sized bed will, of course, have a much higher maximum weight capacity compared to the toddler bed.
Perhaps the only downside to this one is that it has very little space underneath to tuck any items in so the bottom is not ideal for storage. You might want to get a separate dresser which you can put at the side instead. After weighing all the pros and cons, we have come to conclude that this one should be put at the fourth spot in our list.

Delta Children Canton 4- in-1 Convertible Crib
One reason why we are placing this convertible crib in the fifth is because it is the heaviest among all the cribs that we have added in the list. It also is quite heavy on the budget so you might want to reconsider the other brands first before choosing this one.
Despite these cons, there are still a lot of great things about this convertible crib. For starters, it is a 4-in-1 crib which means that you can transition it from a baby crib to a toddler bed to a day bed and, finally, to a full-sized bed. This means that while you pay for a hefty price tag upfront, you will eventually end up saving more instead of having to buy a new bed year after year to accommodate to your kid’s growing needs.
Another thing we really love about this crib is that it is super easy to assemble. As long as you follow the instructions carefully, you should not have any trouble getting it finished. In fact, most of us here at ParentsNeed HQ were able to put the crib together in just half an hour. Easy peasy, right? If you have small kids who are “helping” out with the assembly and end up losing some of the bolts, you need not worry so much as it comes with extras. You do have to be careful about putting the parts together as they are not interchangeable.
When it comes to construction, the Delta Children Canton does not disappoint. It is made from real wood and not veneer which means that it is super sturdy, strong and durable. Even if you have little ones who are constantly on the move and are used to doing things rough and rowdy, you can be sure that this will not give in to their weight. As for the colors, they come in very standard finishes and in different shades, too, so you can choose the exact color that matches the nursery’s interiors. With a fully-certified construction made from non-toxic material, you could never go wrong using this product. Do take note that the mattress and conversion kits need to be purchased separately.
After weighing all the pros and cons, we think this one deserves to be placed at the last spot in our list.

Now that you have looked at our top choices for convertible cribs for babies, would you consider getting one for your little one? The choice is totally up to you, of course, but you should remember that choosing these types of cribs will save you a lot of money in the long run especially since you will just have to get the conversion kits later on, instead of buying an entirely new bed. Just make sure to get one that comes with a timeless design and that is durable and sturdy enough to withstand the weight (and activities) of your little ones.
